For LLCs doing business in Virginia whose owners live outside the state, and non-resident owners who rent out residential property in Virginia, an appointed agent provides a local contact to receive legal papers and official notices on behalf of the company or property owner. Duties include accepting service of process, such as lawsuit papers, receiving applicable notices, orders, demands, and SCC correspondence, and forwarding them to the designated owner or company contact. LLC registered-agent and landlord resident-agent appointments are separate services, with requirements depending on the appointment.
