Flood Risk & Insurance Resources
Start with official maps, then discuss the property and insurance options with your insurance agent. A map lookup alone is not a guarantee that a property will or will not flood.
FEMA address lookup
Find official flood maps and available map products for an address.
Understand flood risk
Review NFIP guidance about property risk.
Flood insurance eligibility
Check official guidance and discuss coverage with an agent.
Questions to ask before buying
- What is the effective mapped flood zone, and are map changes pending?
- Does the lender require flood insurance? What is the estimated premium?
- Is an elevation certificate available or useful for this property?
- What building and contents coverage, deductibles, exclusions, and effective dates apply?
- What can the seller and local floodplain office tell you about prior flooding, drainage, or mitigation?
Flooding can occur outside mapped high-risk areas, and most homeowners insurance does not cover flood damage. Review a separate flood policy with an insurance agent.
